Scientifying Awareness

What is Awareness?

Awareness is when your attention is drawn to some change, new information, or things that you had previously overlooked in your daily life. When something comes to your consciousness, you are able to logically think about its importance or meaning. As a result, you can deepen your understanding of specific events, perceive things from a new perspective, or view your own emotions and actions objectively.

Why do we become aware?

It is known that only about 10% of the information processed by the human brain comes to our conscious awareness, with most of the information being processed unconsciously. While many pieces of information are processed simultaneously in the unconscious, only one thing can be processed consciously at a time. Among the many events processed unconsciously, one event that requires logical processing is selected to rise into our conscious awareness. This is the process of becoming aware.

What is the role of awareness?

People tend to resist things that are imposed on them by others. For example, many people have experienced losing motivation when told to study. However, when a person realizes the importance of something on their own, they tend to approach it positively. In terms of human behavior, it is most important to become aware of something on your own.

Awareness and Robots

In daily life, it's common to know something in your head but still lack the motivation to act on it. It's difficult to trigger awareness on your own willfully. But what if a robot could help bring about that awareness? Being able to appropriately recognize what you want to do or should do would be an ideal state. Robots can influence a person's unconscious mind and bring about awareness, leading to proactive behavioral change.

Awareness and Health

The first application of this kind of awareness is in maintaining health. It is believed that influencing the unconscious mind can be effective in promoting health and recovering from chronic pain. As the first application of the science of awareness, the goal is to contribute to the health maintenance of many people.
